Our Story

BeeWell was founded by physicians to improve how patients engage with their care. As a team of healthcare professionals, we fully understand the challenges, opportunities, and demands the current healthcare system places on providers, administrators, payors, and patients. BeeWell works with your practice or hospital to customize the patient experience through your own branded app, simplifying access to patient education, improving patient satisfaction and compliance, and saving you time.

Alden Parsons

I chose a career in thoracic surgery in large part because it was a field in which I could tangibly help people as they are going through life threatening medical conditions. While caring for patients through cancer or other critical illness, I am allowed an amazing opportunity to be a part of their lives at a very important juncture, for which I am very thankful. My interest in making that potentially very stressful experience as smooth as possible has evolved into the development of a patient education mobile platform that fills a large gap in the patient education experience that currently exists in healthcare today, a gap which the focus on EHRs is not filling. I have had the pleasure, since starting BeeWell, of seeing an amazing group of staff come together and give the original concept wings… we are well on our way. In addition, I am thankful for an amazing husband, Steve Parsons, of over 22 years, and three great children, ages 9, 5, and 3, who allow me to truly feel in the greatest sense of the phrase that “life is full.”

Teaching has always been very important to me throughout my life. My journey as an educator began 30 years ago, first working with campers at Camp Seagull, then going on to teach high school chemistry, as well as coaching cross country. While earning my PhD in Biology at the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, I served as a teaching assistant then as a visiting lecturer for 5 different undergraduate classes. After earning my MD, I spent time as a medical resident in Pediatrics and Neonatal/Perinatal Medicine Fellow, at UNC Chapel Hill, I also taught medical students and residents. Thereafter, my teaching centered around two populations, parents with sick newborns and the nurses and support staff who care for them. In addition to my neonatology practice, I have the pleasure of serving as Chief Medical Officer for BeeWell, our patient education platform for patients improves patient education by implementing principles of learning (repetition, gradualness, simplicity of expression, ease of access, active learning, accommodation of the needs of different learning styles). When I am not working, I am spending time with my beautiful wife Alden, our 3 children and our 2 dogs.

Through a diverse career in healthcare I have been privileged to work with many talented and dedicated individuals on a variety of complex efforts, tasks, and issues. I am proud to be a part of the amazing team of professionals at BeeWell as we partner with healthcare organizations to tackle one of the most challenging issues in healthcare, individual engagement regarding their own health. When not at work I spend as much time as I can with my beautiful wife Toni and my amazing son Fynn, enjoying the outdoors, coming up with new inventions, or just hanging out! – Colossians 3:17

From Intensive Care to the Cancer Center, caring for people has always been my passion. Throughout my career as a nurse, I have had the opportunity to observe how technology has impacted the healthcare industry first hand. The key with any healthcare technology is to ensure that it enhances patient care and doesn’t distract from it. I feel that if we can improve patient education and empower patients, we will improve their overall health. So when I was offered the opportunity to join the BeeWell team, I had to take it. I now have the privilege of working with a creative, fun, and extremely hard working team. At home, I love spending time with my wife Stacy, my sons Connor and Bryce, and my dogs Cleo and Jackson. I enjoy playing guitar, wood working, and traveling.

I find it a privilege to be able to be part of someone’s life when they most need it. Healthcare has allowed me to assist people navigate through their most difficult time with compassion and dignity. I chose BeeWell because I believe knowledge empowers people to build stronger relationships with their providers and take charge of their health to live longer fulfilling lives. I believe that design isn’t something that comes out of the need to make something aesthetically pleasing, but out of the necessity of giving form to information. As a designer I create a unique avenue for communication by providing a visual representation of information. I enjoy working at BeeWell because I am able to take complex information, that may appear daunting to someone during a difficult time in their lives, and turn it into a clean and easily navigable design. If you’re looking for me outside of work you are likely to find me spending time with my fiancé Brandon and our dog Arya, visiting a local park or searching for the best tacos in the area.

Jenny Crosson

Art and design have been a passion for me as long as I can remember, and after completing school, I have been lucky enough to pursue my passion as a full-time career. I have worked in a variety of areas of design including marketing, print, stationery, and now interactive. As part of the creative team at BeeWell, I have the incredible opportunity to collaborate with talented individuals and use design to help others. Outside of work, nothing makes me happier than a good cup of coffee, hand-lettering in my sketchbook, and spending time with friends and my sweet pup Taco. Also food – can’t forget the food.

Mike Zembek

Since graduating from Oneonta State University in New York with a degree in Computer Art, I’ve spent much of my time as a freelance graphic designer in the healthcare and marketing industries. Being well seasoned in digital and print design, I’m quick to learn and have endless creative energy, which I brought along with me to the team when I joined BeeWell.

When I’m not designing, much of my free time and artistic vitality is devoted to mastering the art of analog photography—getting back to the roots of observing what’s in front of you. You’ll quite often find me with a 35mm camera around my neck.

I believe that technology has the ability to alter every component of our daily lives. Through my experience working with varying startup and product development teams, I have learned that behavioral change through education is of utmost importance. If we are able to help users understand how their actions affect their health outcomes then we can more effectively prevent and treat various health conditions. As each product is different, I seek knowledge to learn and make the best decisions to create the best technology to serve this purpose. When I am not working I enjoy traveling or playing soccer.
